The 4Cs of Diamonds

The 4 C’s of Diamonds – Your Guide to Choosing with Confidence
by Xemplare

At Xemplare, we believe every diamond tells a story — of love, of celebration, of beauty. Understanding the 4 C’s gives you the knowledge to choose the perfect diamond with confidence and clarity. Whether you're selecting a timeless engagement ring or a personal heirloom, the 4 C’s — Cut, Colour, Clarity, and Carat — are the universal language of diamond quality. Here’s what each one truly means:

Cut – The Sparkle Factor

More than any other factor, cut determines a diamond’s brilliance. It’s about how well the diamond’s proportions, symmetry, and polish interact with light.

A well-cut diamond reflects light beautifully, creating that mesmerising sparkle and fire.

Grades range from Excellent to Poor — and at Xemplare, only cuts that maximise light performance make it into our collection.

It’s not just about shape (round, oval, pear…), but about precision craftsmanship that brings the stone to life.

A masterful cut is where artistry meets geometry — and where your diamond finds its light.

Colour – Pure and Rare

Diamond colour actually refers to the absence of colour. The less colour a diamond has, the rarer and more valuable it is.

Graded on a scale from D (colourless) to Z (light yellow or brown).

At Xemplare, we favour diamonds in the D to G range for their exceptional purity and brilliance.

Subtle variations are often imperceptible to the untrained eye but can make all the difference in value and beauty.

Think of colour as the canvas — the purer it is, the more brilliant your diamond becomes.

Clarity – Nature’s Signature

Each diamond is formed under incredible pressure over millions of years, and clarity reflects how free the stone is from natural inclusions or blemishes.

Graded from Flawless (FL) to Included (I).

Many inclusions are microscopic and don’t affect a diamond’s appearance, especially when expertly set.

We hand-select diamonds with exceptional clarity, ensuring every piece radiates with refined elegance.

Every inclusion tells a story of a diamond’s natural journey — we simply ensure yours is one of perfection.

Carat – Size, Weight, and Balance

Carat weight measures the diamond’s size — but bigger isn’t always better. It’s about proportion, presence, and how it complements the design.

One carat equals 0.2 grams.

A well-cut 0.90ct diamond can appear larger and more brilliant than a poorly cut 1.00ct stone.

At Xemplare, we help you find the ideal balance between carat weight and visual impact, guided by your preferences and budget.

Carat speaks to scale, but brilliance, beauty, and craftsmanship speak louder.

At Xemplare, Knowledge Meets Elegance

Understanding the 4 C’s empowers you to choose with intention. But beyond the grading charts and technicalities lies something more — the feeling a diamond evokes. We’re here to guide you every step of the way, blending expertise with a deep respect for craftsmanship and your story.

After all, an exceptional diamond isn’t just about the 4 C’s. It’s about one more: Connection.

Let us help you find the one that’s undeniably yours.
